  Type is IBM Plex Sans for the claims, Instrument Sans for reading,
  and JetBrains Mono for anything the machine said.

  The engravings in the margins are real: two plates from the 1932
  Larousse du XXe siecle, public domain, cropped and re-inked. Their
  provenance and the exact derivation steps are in
  /botanical/ATTRIBUTION.md, because artwork should be able to say
  where it came from.

  The ink in those files lives in the alpha channel over a flat colour,
  which means WebP's quality setting has nothing to compress and
  alphaQuality is the only lever that matters. Finding that out cost
  one decorative layer 200 KB, sixteen times the product screenshot
  beside it, before anyone measured.

  The diagrams in the margins are real too. The automaton accepts
  binary strings divisible by three. The Turing machine computes the
  binary successor. The B-tree is a valid order-3 index page: every
  key in a leaf really does belong to the interval its parent points
  it at.
